Take Action:

  • Bring Immigrant Justice issues to your congregation or organization.
    • Help educate your peers for action as immigrant advocates.  Speakers and other help are available.
    • Support a congregant who offers housing to an asylum-seeker waiting for her/his hearing.
  • Volunteer at the border!
    • Be Part of Humanitarian Assistance.  Join a trip to the Border to assist organizations supporting asylum-seekers.  Observe what’s being done in our name.  If you are interested in joining the Ventura County Humanitarian Border Warrior-Angels for our next monthly volunteer trip to the US/SanYsidro Border please contact us here .
    • Become a Legal Observer. The National Lawyers’ Guild, Los Angeles Chapter (nlg-la.org) is calling on attorneys, law students, other legal workers AND ACTIVISTS to travel to the border to act as Legal Observers (LO) as refugees arrive.  Spanish is helpful but not required.  Volunteers must be 18 years old and trained.
  • Visit asylum-seekers and other immigrants at the Adelanto Detention Center.  Detainees need to know they are not alone.  Visits are meaningful to both detainees and visitors.  For an upcoming monthly carpool date and more information, contact us here.
  • Join in with Swap Meet Justice! in Oxnard. “Swap Meet Justice” takes place every last Sunday of the month at the Oxnard College Community Market (aka “The Swap Meet”). Without any prior legal or language skills YOU can help families prepare their applications for Citizenship, Green Cards and DACA renewals. Immigration attorneys are on hand to support and guide.  Come at 8:30am to be trained to prepare applications or come anytime to help in other ways. Some Spanish is helpful but not required. For exact location, dates and other details, contact us here or visit our Swap Meet Justice page.
  • Help keep ICE out of California! Participate locally in holding the Ventura County Sheriff accountable under the CA Values Act / SB 54, which requires no collaboration between local law enforcement and ICE – to protect the safety of all our communities.  In coordination with the statewide ICE Out of CA coalition, we intend to meet with the Sheriff in early Fall to check on his compliance with this law.
  • Be a witness to ICE raids with the Ventura County Rapid Response Network. Get trained to respond immediately as an observer at local immigration enforcement operations.
